Rare earth metals and magnets

The main types of rare-earth permanent magnets are magnets based on neodymium-iron-boron (NdFeB) and samarium-cobalt (SmCo) alloys. NdFeB magnets are the most common type. They have high values of coercive force and residual magnetic induction, as well as a wide range of operation without loss of magnetic characteristics from 60 °C below zero to 240 °C above zero. They also have high values of residual magnetic induction and resistance to demagnetization. According to these indicators, such magnets outperform conventional ceramic magnets, which makes them indispensable when used in products and equipment requiring a strong magnetic field. High resistance of the magnets to aggressive influence of the external environment is achieved by applying a multilayer protective metal coating, the sputtering technique of which has also been mastered at our technical facilities. The nomenclature of manufactured magnets includes products of different shapes in the form of disks, plates, rings, sectors, segments, etc., and weight from grams to several kg.
