On September 25-27, at the Suzdal Arena Sports Complex (Suzdal of the Vladimir region), Rosatom's Fuel Division will hold the First All-Russian Scientific and Technical Conference "Permanent Magnets: Science and Technology. Production. Application". The organizer will be Rusatom Metal Tech LLC (an integrator company in the field of Metallurgy). The conference will be held with support of scientific organizations (NUST MISIS, IMET RAS, Federal State Autonomous Educational Institution for Higher Education "Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B.N. Yeltsin", etc.), manufacturing and technology companies (Uralredmet JSC, Istok State Scientific Production named after A.I. Shokin, Solikamsk Magnesium Plant JSC, etc.), as well as Associations of Producers and Consumers of Rare and Rare-Earth Metals. The conference will be held within the framework of the Decade of Science and Technology.
More than 300 guests are expected to take part in the event. Invited to participate:
Andrey Shevchenko, Director for Technological Development, Rosatom State Corporation;
Ivan Markov, Director of the Department of Metallurgy and Materials, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation;
Natalia Nikipelova, President at TVEL JSC (managing company of the Fuel Division);
Sergey Salikhov, First Vice-Rector of the MISIS National University of Science and Technology;
Andrey Andrianov, Director General of Rusatom Metal Tech LLC; Alexey Dub, First Deputy Director General of Science and Innovations JSC (managing company of the Rosatom's Scientific Division) and others.
During the conference, it is planned to discuss the main problems of the industry and propose innovative approaches to solve them. The program includes four thematic tracks:
• "Science" (magnetic materials; magnetic systems and the use of magnetic materials; technologies for the production of magnetic materials, measuring methods, metrology, certification and technical regulation in the field of magnetic materials; raw material resources and recycling of rare-earth hard magnetic materials);
• "Raw materials" (raw materials for the magnetic industry, Russia's place in the global magnetic REM market, prospects for the development of mining projects in Russia);
• "Production" (Russian technologies for the production of permanent rare-earth magnets and magnetic REM);
• "Consumption" (issues of providing magnets to high-tech sectors of domestic industry: electric motion, wind energy, robotics, special applications).
Thanks to the participation of representatives of leading scientific and design organizations, the business community, government agencies and production sites, a comprehensive discussion of all areas is expected.
Special attention at the conference will be paid to attracting young specialists: within the framework of the "Personnel" track, a panel session "The magnetic industry needs personnel. Training and retraining of specialists. Will we be able to provide the new industry with a professional staff?" will take place. Students and postgraduates will have the opportunity to present their poster presentations.
A book of reports is to be published based on the results of the conference.
More detailed information can be found on the event's website.
Reference
Since 2020, Rosatom has been engaged in phased localization of production of permanent rare-earth magnets of the neodymium-iron-boron system in the Fuel Division. The first REM magnets produced by Elemash Magnet LLC (part of Rosatom's Fuel Division) were supplied to Rosatoms wind power division, JSC NovaWind, for power generators at the Karmalinovskaya Wind Power Plant in Stavropolsky region. Currently, Russia has all the necessary resources to create a production chain for REM magnets. In particular, the Rosatom State Corporation has competencies in all key areas, including: extraction of raw materials (projects of the Mining Division); research base (institutes of Science and Innovations JSC); as well as the existing and future production facilities of the Fuel Division. Additionally, the stability of the vertical chain is ensured by cooperation with the leaders of the rare metals industry, in particular, the Solikamsk Magnesium Plant.
In December 2023, a strategic session was held dedicated to current issues in the development of the magnetic industry in Russia. The successful conduct of this session and the high interest shown in the event served as the basis for organizing a full-scale conference in 2024, designed to deepen and expand the discussion of key issues and prospects for the development of the domestic magnetic industry.
The Russian industry faces the goal of ensuring technological sovereignty and the transition to the latest technologies in the shortest possible time. The state and large domestic companies are directing resources to accelerate the development of the domestic research, infrastructure, scientific and technological base. The introduction of innovations and new high-tech equipment allows Rosatom and its enterprises to occupy new niches in the market, increasing the competitiveness of the nuclear industry and the Russian industry as a whole.
