Rosatom presented metallurgical products at the REDMET-2024 exhibition

As part of the international scientific and practical conference "REDMET-2024", Rusatom Metal Tech LLC (an integrator company of Rosatom's Fuel Division in the field of Metallurgy) presented a key line of products made of refractory, rare and rare earth metals.

REDMET-2024 is the main platform for consolidating scientific potential in the field of rare metals and discussing a wide range of scientific and technological tasks from the processing of mineral raw materials to the development of new materials based on them.

At the exhibition, guests could get acquainted with the products of Rusatom Metalltech LLC - ingots, tapes, rods, wires and powders made of tantalum, niobium, zirconium and hafnium, as well as magnets based on the neodymium-iron-boron alloy for wind power and electric transport. Rusatom Metal Tech LLC is the only supplier of hafnium metal in Russia, providing 100% of Russian zirconium rolled products.

The presence of a unique production base at the Chepetsky Mechanical Plant in Glazov (JSC CHMZ, an enterprise of the Rosatom Fuel Division) allows us to supply competitive products for high-tech companies from the aerospace, petroleum and chemical industries, nuclear industry and mechanical engineering.

"Today it is almost impossible to imagine life without technologies using rare metals and their compounds. Currently, industries such as traditional and renewable energy, metallurgy and mechanical engineering, aviation and engine building, chemistry and electromotion have a fairly serious impetus in their development due to the use of rare metals and compounds based on them. So tantalum, niobium, hafnium, tungsten and molybdenum are used to produce superalloys, which are used to make aviation rocket engines, hulls and wing edges. Communication systems cannot be imagined without tantalum capacitors. They are responsible for reliable operation, therefore they are ideal for maintaining stability in communication networks and in a wide variety of electronic devices — from computers to televisions. Rusatom Metal Tech LLC supplies the market with high-demand products made of refractory and rare metals. At all stages of production, we strictly monitor the observance of manufacturing quality and compliance with technical specifications, GOST standards and customer requirements," commented Andrey Andrianov, CEO of Rusatom Metal Tech LLC.

The conference participants discussed modern scientific and technological challenges in the field of processing rare metal mineral raw materials and obtaining critically important materials and products based on rare metals. In total, more than 300 people took part in the event, including scientists and world-renowned experts from 14 countries.

The fuel division of Rosatom State Corporation (Rosatom TVEL Fuel Company) includes enterprises for the manufacture of nuclear fuel, conversion and enrichment of uranium, production of gas centrifuges, as well as research and development organizations. As the sole supplier of nuclear fuel for Russian nuclear power plants, TVEL provides fuel to a total of more than 70 power reactors in 15 countries, research reactors in nine countries around the world, as well as transport reactors of the Russian nuclear fleet. Every sixth power reactor in the world is powered by fuel rods. Rosatom's fuel division is the world's largest producer of enriched uranium, as well as the leader of the global stable isotope market. The Fuel Division is actively developing new businesses in the fields of chemistry, metallurgy, energy storage technologies, 3D printing, digital products, as well as decommissioning of nuclear facilities. Rosatom's industry integrators for additive technologies and energy storage systems have been created in the contour of the TVEL Fuel Company. http://www.tvel.ru

Rusatom Metallurgical Technologies LLC is a divisional integrator of the Rosatom Fuel Company TVEL in the field of Metallurgy. The tasks of developing the metallurgical business of the Fuel Company include, in particular, expanding the customer base in Russia and abroad, developing production facilities, and creating new alliances and partnerships. The technological partners of Rusatom Metallurgical Technologies LLC are enterprises specializing in the production of products made of refractory and light metals, as well as alloys based on them. The integrator consolidates the competencies of TVEL JSC enterprises in the field of metallurgy: CHMZ JSC, MSZ JSC, NZHK PJSC, Elemash Magnit LLC, NPO Centrotech LLC, VNIINM JSC. The scientific potential, technological competencies, and qualified personnel of enterprises allow us to carry out work on the launch of mass production of new materials and promising product ranges, as well as promptly respond to the needs of leading industries and high-tech companies.

Since 2020, Rosatom has been engaged in the phased localization of the production of permanent rare earth magnets of the neodymium-iron-boron system in the Fuel Division. The first REM magnets produced by Elemash Magnit LLC (part of Rosatom's TVEL Fuel Company) were delivered to the wind energy division of Rosatom - NovaVind JSC for electric generators of the Karmalinovskaya WPP in the Stavropol Territory. Currently, Russia has all the necessary resources to create a chain of production of REM magnets. In particular, Rosatom has competencies in all key areas, including: extraction of raw materials (Mining Division projects); research base (institutes of JSC Science and Innovation); as well as existing and future production facilities of the Fuel Division. Additionally, the stability of the vertical chain is ensured by cooperation with the leaders of the rare metal industry, in particular, the Solikamsk Magnesium Plant.

The Russian industry has a goal to ensure technological sovereignty and transition to the latest technologies as soon as possible. The state and large domestic companies direct resources to the accelerated development of the domestic research, infrastructure, scientific and technological base. The introduction of innovations and new high-tech equipment allows Rosatom and its enterprises to occupy new niches in the market, increasing the competitiveness of the nuclear industry and the entire Russian industry as a whole.
